The Guardian newspaper seems very lukewarm on backing Remain campaign.

I have noticed over the past week that even the Guardian newspaper that I would have expected to back the Remain campaign to the hilt is posting articles that are in contradiction to the assertions made by Remain. Here is a good example:

https://www.theguardian.com/business/economics-blog/2016/jun/15/george-osborne-brexit-budget-would-guarantee-a-recession-eu-referendum

entitled:

"George Osborne's Brexit budget would guarantee a recession." ...
"Rather than slashing spending, the government would be wise to take a pragmatic approach to the economy if we left the EU."

This sort of writing seems to be distancing itself from the government and the Remain campaign. In fact they refer to this budget proposal as being I don't know if The Guardian is following the momentum of the polls, hoping to back the winner or if they are simply taking a pragmatic and neutral stance in the campaign. It is refreshing to see their skepticism.

Newspaper websites across the board are condemning Osborne's ploy:

Once again, I would like to refer you to this wonderful sketch of the sadistic headmaster from Not The Nine O'Clock News with Rowan Atkinson and Griff Rhys Jones:
